Jagatveer was hit by a bullet after a man from the same village allegedly fired a country-made pistol while dancing to DJ music during the wedding of a rice mill worker’s daughter.
Jagatveer was initially taken to a community health centre and later referred to Pilibhit’s Autonomous State Medical College Hospital, where his condition remains critical.
Puranpur CO Prateek Dayiha said the accused, Rajat Kumar (27), belongs to the same village and works as a labour contractor. “He had arranged a job for the bride’s father, Ramnath, at a rice mill in Puranpur and was invited to his daughter’s wedding,” he said.
SHO Pawan Pandey said the accused has been taken into custody. The .32 bore country-made pistol used in the celebratory firing was also seized. “He has been booked under BNS section 109(1) (attempt to murder),” said Pandey.
